Dick Wolf, 'Boardwalk Empire' Duo Developing 1950s-Set Drama at HBO (Exclusive)

HBO is teaming with Law & Order mastermind Dick Wolf. The premium cable network is developing a drama that revolves around a RAND-like think tank mission to prohibit the launch of a nuclear bomb. Wolf would executive produce the project, set in Santa Monica in the 1950s,with Boardwalk Empire writer/supervising producer Howard Korder attached to pen the project.Allen Coulter is on board to direct. The untitled Korder-Coulter-Wolf project would serve as a reunion for Wolf and Coulter, who previously worked together on Fox's 1990s drama NY Undercover as well as NBC's short-lived effortLaw & Order: LA. Coulter, who has directed severalBoardwalk Empire episodes, has a long history with HBO, with credits including the cabler's upcoming horseracing drama Luck, as well as The Sopranos, Six Feet Under and Sex and the City. STORY: HBO Renews 'Boardwalk Empire' For his part, Wolf collaborated with HBO for his 2007 telepic, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. The Wolf-produced adaptation won six Emmys, including outstanding made for TV movie. The news comes mere weeks after Wolf's shingle sold a string of projects to NBC, including a firefighter drama from Michael Brandt and Derek Haasas well as untitled drama projects from The L Word creator Ilene Chaiken and former Smallville executive producersTodd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer.
