Tom Hanks Eyeing 'In the Garden of Beasts' as Potential Star Vehicle

Tom Hanks may head back to World War II once again. Again. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hanks will produce and potentially star in the Universal adaptation of 'In the Garden of Beasts.' The non-fiction book -- from writer Erik Larson, who also wrote 'The Devil in the White City, which Leonardo DiCaprio has long been attached to -- follows William Dodd, an American ambassador in 1933 Berlin. Dodd's family had many encounters with the Nazis during that time period -- especially his daughter, Martha, who carried on an affair with a Gestapo officier and a Soviet spy. Girl got around! Hanks's fascination with World War II is well documented. In addition to starring in 'Saving Private Ryan,' he also produced the HBO mini-series's 'Band of Brothers' and 'The Pacific.' Don't get too excited about 'Beasts' just yet. For reference, DiCaprio signed on to possibly star in 'White City' last November. As yet, little other movement has happened with the project.
