Studiocanal acquires 'Charlie Casanova'

LONDON -- Studiocanal has acquired U.K. and Irish privileges to Terry McMahon's questionable feature "Charlie Casanova," that has five nominations in the Irish Film & TV Honours including best film. The self-funded, no-budget drama stars Emmett J. Scanlan like a sociopathic Irish yuppie who kills a woman inside a hit-and-run accident, after which uses handmade cards to determine his fate. It had its world premiere at South By The West this past year, before winning the prize for the best first feature in the Galway Film Festival. Studiocanal intends to release the pic this spring. The film has triggered very divided response by experts and audiences. "It sets to viscerally provoke as numerous questions as you possibly can, and answer not one of them,Inch stated McMahon, an old actor who also authored for Irish TV cleaning soap "Fair City."
